excuse the photos but the only way i could reduce the file size from my smart phone, was to crop. i just got this 81 and noticed this rounded protuberance on the left side sticking out approx. 3/32 of an inch. according to this forums info a Krieger should always have 4 screws (Fig 4). The head of the magazine indicator assembly was drilled and secured with a flat-head screw. as you can see mine does not. is this because mine is a pre-flat screw or was there a problem and this was the fix to keep the assembly in. the area around the protuberance that is a different color than the bluing is lacquer that made it on the receiver from someone refinishing the stock and the white line is a reflection.
thanks

Re: Krieger conversion fourth screw ?
I'd say you have a legit Krieger, but I've only seen one other with such a protrusion instead of a screw head. Maybe the men at Krieger tried a few methods of securing the magazine indicator assembly before deciding on the one we see the most.
