81 fails to feed

I have a model 81 in 300 Savage that fill not feed out of the magazine. Also when I load it with a stripper clip I am only able to push 3 rounds into the magazine. Where do I start to trouble shoot these problems?

the mag spring my be installed backwards or something is jamming it up that's where I would start there
