Welcome aboard and hope you enjoy the journey. I gather from the name your rifle must be a .35 Remington. I got my first model 81 in .35 in 1984. You will have to post some pictures and share some more stories about your rifle. We never get tired hearing about these old spring poles.

Great, I was 17, We were going to start hunting with my best friend's dad. I took my paycheck to the gun store and found The model 8, I saw a semiautomatic and paid $125.00 Haven't hunted with it since. Mine is from 1909 have an envelope of different sights I have put on it over the years. I made a rail for it that mounts on the rear sight Holes. where I temporarly put a red dot sight on the rail. I have old boxes of ammo, new boxes of ammo, reloaded boxes of ammo, Brass shells, dies but I don't shoot this much anymore but its 2014 and I found you guys my sons 15 and I want to go out and shoot it soon.

35 Remington, How did that red dot sight work for you? I once mounted a scout scope on my Model 8 using a scope mounting base installed using the rear sight mounting holes. Shot it some with the scout scope mounted and it worked O.K. but I took it off since I was concerned about whether or not the barrel jacket would take the recoil strain in the long term. Any one else have an opinion on this subject chime in.

I bought a cheap rail and put some sand paper on the barrel and rubbed til it made the rail concave. I mounted it using the evisting screws, And put on a BSA red dot. I never shot it with it on there. Blending old technology with new was my plan, I think you are totally right with the strain on the barrel tube. Investment in rail $15.00 not too bad. Some time in the rifle's life someone tapped the gun for layman sight above the grip maybe I should go that direction. The wow factor of these rifles is the older technology that was cutting edge back then.
