Finally an 81
Got my first model 81 and it is 300 savage . It's in very good shape and came with a stith mount. Now I am looking for a classic 7/8 tube scope to top it with. Barrel code BSS dates to 1947. I should mention it kicks like a mule ! Now I understand all the old sissy pads.

I am in the sissy category as well.
I slapped one on after 5 rds. It didn't help a whole lot, but it is a fun classic!

While I don't have the 300SAV conversion assembled yet, I have fired the 35REM multiple times. It doesn't compare to a BAR 300WMg or a 7mm Mg XBolt Medallion. You should know I use a Limbsaver pad on them all. Even my daughter likes to shoot them
Our ladies can't compare to a straight stock 4570 Marlin. The recoil physics of our recoil operated actions actually slows down the acceleration of the rifle. The physics are no different: X muzzle energy = Y recoil. 
If you think our ladies smack you, try a Model 760 in 35 REM or 308 to compare. It's a lot sharper impact on the shoulder.
I get the same effect with a 10# 4570 Siamese Mauser rifle. (1-1/8 bull barrel) It kicks like a Slllooowww mule. With a warm load of 400 grain bullet, it will shove you back about 8 inches. the Marlin did the same thing, it just cut your eyebrow and busted your glasses. I have 2 scars in my eyebrow.
