Re: My elusive 8
Sir,
Welcome aboard. It's good to see new members who are interested in rem. M8/81s. They truly are an important part of the evolution of the rifle in the USA.
Your rifle looks to be a great example of the m.8. Your special order sights are of interest to me, because I shoot and hunt with my model 8/81s. Your sights are the same as some examples that I own. They both are user friendly and work well for their intended purpose. Since your rifle is fairly late production, your bore should be in excellent condition. I'm sure it will be an accurate shooter. I have several in 35 rem. and it's a really good caliber. But then so are all the other calibers that JMB designed. Have some fun with your "new" model 8@ let us know how it shoots.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

Re: My elusive 8
adirond8, that is a GREAT looking 8 you got there! I especially like the solid blue left on the metal and that whomever installed the sling swivel eyelets did so using the hole in the barrel jacket NOT in the forearm.
I bet she'll be a sweet shooter. A classic Adirondack deer whacker!

Re: My elusive 8
thanks folks!!! really excited to put her in the field
Re: My elusive 8
Looks just like mine. Which isn't a surprise as the serial numbers are only 8 apart from each other.
Re: My elusive 8
I'll give an additional thumbs up to a nicely set-up Model 8 as well. By the way, as a "history nut" to the highest degree
I am always interested in the various markings and codes scattered throughout these fine weapons.
My "likes" on your particular 8 are the maltese cross, 6-pointed star, radiant sun, and arrow fitter's marks shown on your rifle. Great to see those for some of us gun history junkies!
Also find the factory repair codes on the barrel jacket interesting - LL3/C3.
Help me out here - think that means Feb '42 repair, but what does C3 stand for? Thought they had to have a month/year letter as well as the "3" with it.
If I read the charts right, does the 67XXX s/n indicate about 1934?
Neat stuff. I can really "geek out" on the data! Also your combo of sights is nice to have set up, like Roger and Carl said.
Have fun!

My guess is, it's actually a "CB" = manufacture April, 1933
