My 81 won't fire

I recently acquired a model 81, I knew nothing about the gun but it looked cool so I bought it.

1. I fired it 6 or 7 times with out a problem. Then it started to miss fire every few shots. Now it doesn't fire at all. I can see small dents on the primers but the rounds don't fire. Seems like the firing pin doesn't hit the primer hard enough.

2. Also, I took the stock off and now I can't get the screw that holds the stock on to seat. It just keeps cross threading.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Curley,
Progressive worse function problem may just be a dirty or ill lubricated arm. If you thought it "looked cool" before, wait until you follow the instructions in the attached link and get a look at how cool it is inside. You may find that old sticky lubricant is causing your trouble. Figuring the rifle is 65 years old at the least and may never have been apart it may be way overdue for a cleaning and lubrication. Of course do a close inspection of the firing pin to access if damaged or broken. Good Luck.

Meant to address the bolt getting cross threaded also. Look at this thread from few weeks ago:
