I continue my trip back in time to the early 20th century.

This particular model 8, built in 1936, has been a real project in motion. I've had to deal with a floppy safety, a charging handle falling off, broken feed lip spring and a Redfield sight that wants to unscrew itself under fire. Get the safety flopping problem cured, got a couple of new feed lip springs (always have extras) and I *think* I've got the charging handle issue settled. Had to locktite in the screws that attach the sight, but the big adjustment screw still wants to work loose under recoil. Today, after about 30 rounds my groups began to go to hell. I picked up the gun to see if the sight were working loose again, and felt the barrel wobble! Yep, the forearm screw and the take down screw were both working loose. Got those tightened back down and it ran fine after that.

It groups pretty well at 50 yards so I guess that's something.

It might make things difficult.

Wish you well with those issues, they can be frustrating. Had similar problems with eyeglasses, a scope, and a 45/70 Marlin. Wish I still had it. but the trade for a 270 custom Springfield 03 (pretty ladie) was worth it.

I agree that Locktite on the take down screw might make life difficult later on, but the elevation adjustment screw on the rear sight is another matter. I think a tiny drop of purple ought to do the trick and still leave it adjustable.

I do support use of Loctite products. Just remember if you use the red, hydraulic sealer, or the shaft lock it takes 300d F to break it loose.
I used these in industry and they Work They make a (purple I think) specifically for small screws. It is very nice on those tiny scope screws. And it does not chew up the threads as others can.
I rarely use red or blue on the fine threads of any firearm...

Yes, I have a tube of the purple, which they say is for small parts. I never use the red stuff and only use the blue in AR15 parts which I'm not very sentimental about.

I think I have the unscrewing part fixed. The take down screws I'm not putting anything on, just have to keep an eye in them at the range.
