Hi, I stupidly sold a 300 sav model 81 that I used to shoot and about 4 years later really wanting another bought one online but got took a little bit since the one I have now is a bit of a frankenstein. It is all one early model 8 gun with the exception of the barrel, and sights. It was a 35 rem when built but someone replaced the barrel, and probably spring with a 300 savage, welded in 2 scope holes on the side, and refinished it. Then they must have figured the sights were wrong with new caliber and the back became a king that doesn't fit with the elevator most of the way back and the front got ground down. It functions fine except the sighting and I wanted one to shoot and the price was only a little high for a shooter so I'm happy but I miss my original nice 81. I've come to this site to learn what I can do to my shooter as far as sights go and to find if there are any tricks reloading the 300 savage for these. I really enjoy shooting with these even with the strong recoil, and it cost a lot less than a ljungman or mas 49 which were my first experiences with semi-auto, ammo just costs too much now days. It's probably not worth anything after the "work" that's been done to it. Would I be damaging it more to put like a 41r on it now? or something else easier to get a hold of?
