New to the forum

Post by pieceinthevalley »

Hi all- first post on this great forum. I've owned a Model 81 (in pieces) for quite a few years, but it was a back-burner project until recently. Thanks to some of the regular contributors on this forum, I discovered I had a 1941 FBI model. It's now on the front burner! I'll get some pictures up at some point. Meantime, a couple of questions please. First, with the barrel jacket being drilled and tapped for a sling swivel, will the value be affected if I install a rear swivel in the stock? Second, regarding ammo, can anyone give a brief history of the metal-cased .30 Rem ammo? I'm assuming that it was originally devised for LE use. Was this a Remington idea, or was it proposed to them? I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Welcome pieceinthevalley!

To answer your first question, will the value be affected if you install a real swivel in the stock? YES! To an advanced 8/81 collector, the value will be negatively affected if the gun's stock is drilled for a swivel (not part of the gun's original configuration).
