I recently purchased a model 8... I think. I'm just wondering if there is a surefire way to identify it as i haven't located it anywhere on the rifle. Thanks in advance.

I am pretty sure that is a Model 8. Pistol grip is the same shape as my Model 8 of about 1916 vintage. Also it appears to have no magazine side springs and all the 81's I have seen have both left and right side springs.

May be a SLR, check your serial # against the lists posted here on the site you may have found an early one....
I'd almost bet it has no barrel date code. (on the left side)

I checked this morning there is nothing on the barrel and the serial number puts it around 1908-09

i'd have to see a closeup of the checkering panel, but it appears as if it could be factory checkered...

Yup U gotta Nice-un :!:  Some folks call it a Pre-model 8 some a Self Loading Rifle, produced before Remington had given it an official model.

Send Cam a photo or post; plus there is the tang sight ;)

What no forearm to go with the sling swivel in the barrel sleeve? Lots of accessories already there 8-)
