Extra hole drilled in the trigger guard
Extra hole drilled in the trigger guard
I have an extra hole drilled in my trigger guard. It does appear to be factory made and not tapped. The hole is between the mounting screw holes. Can anyone tell me what this was intended to be used for. Mine is a model 8 manufactured October 1928. It is .32 cal. and I load my own. I have always loved these rifles from childhood. My father had one in .32 (now my brothers) and he was so successful at bagging deer with it that we named it the "sausage grinder". I was lucky enough to find a real clean one a few years ago so that I can have my own grinder.
Re: Extra hole drilled in the trigger guard
airbear, I've seen some Model 8's with an additional screw in the bottom tang/trigger plate. I do not know the history on this, but the ones i've seen appear factory

Re: Extra hole drilled in the trigger guard
Thank you 81police. I have looked at a number of 8s' and I do not recall ever seeing that particular hole in any of the others.

Not sure if my attached picture will appear. The photo will give the location and orientation on the trigger guard tang.

Re: Extra hole drilled in the trigger guard
This issue has been discussed before and normally there is a wood screw in that hole. No knows why, because the tang screw is what holds the stock. I think this will only be found on rifles with semi-pistol grip stocks and the tang was longer maybe suggesting an additional anchor to the stock. I have also seen rifles with a boss that was never drilled for this hole, but maybe was filled during forging.
