is this a model 8 round knob butt stock???

I bought this unsanded round knob butt stock off of ebay thinking it was a model 8(It is a beauty with cheeks that you can't see in the photos). I have two model 8 receivers and both receivers fit the stock, the trouble is neither trigger guard fits. I have one straight (21,000) trigger guard that definitely doesn't fit and one slightly curved (26,000) that fits better, but it is not right. Could this butt stock be for a Remington A5 shotgun

Sir, I believe what you have could be a model 8 rondknob stock. I own 6 roundknob model 8s and it looks very similar to them. However, the model 11 shotgun, wasn't checkered in the beginng either . Our old friend Jerry may have known the differences between the two,but I'm not sure of them myself. My main expertise would be with the Browning /FN Auto 5 shotguns. Most of those were checkered except for the really early ones. Namely the first 10,000 units which were purchased by JMB himself for import to the USA. Alot of those were also straight grip stocks and if my memory serves me correctly, that was standard and the smooth round knob and the checkered ones were an optional choice. Sorry I got so long -winded with this.I wish I had your stock in front of me and I might be more help.
Hopefully some other members will be more help.
Thanks for your time,
Roger

I started shaking the stock and was hearing a thump in the lightning holes, so I took the butt plate off and wrapped in two pieces of old, fragile weatherproof paper was a mainspring, firing pin and a lyman front sight, yes it is a model 8 round knob butt stock. Now I can subtract the cost of these parts from 125 dollars I paid for the stock and I think I came out OK.

I decided to go back and look at the paper that the parts were wrapped in and found it is oil soaked news paper, not weatherproof paper, I can't make much out but this little piece caught my eye, the lightening holes are also a time capsules. Does anyone have an idea what year in November this was published.

FYI the book that is mentioned on the newspaper (if that is what it may be) regarding Theodore Roosevelt's Letters to His Children was published in 1919. Hope this helps!

And - I will also say, fantastic score on a piece of Americana you should be quite pleased about!

take care
