Question about holes in receiver
Question about holes in receiver
I was wondering if anyone knows what the holes drilled in the receiver were for? I was thinking a after market scope mount. It is for sale for $350, is that a good price? Serial #55031

Re: Question about holes in receiver
My guess is that the holes are for a scope mount, but I don't know which one. Hard to tell value from just one picture. Also value depends on caliber. If it's a .25, grab it. Got to know what the rest of the gun looks like. Though, that being said. It has a nice peep sight. But it looks to me like someone may have sanded the stock around the wrist. I don't know if this one is worth $350, cause I can't see the rifle, but it's hard today to find a Model 8 selling for $350.

Re: Question about holes in receiver
Well I decided to pull the trigger and get it. it was $339 out the door with my Military discount. I am taking it apart and it looks like all the SN'S match that I have seen. I heard that the barrel with the sling swivel was only on the police models? not sure if the barrel is original then because I don't think it is a police model. Please let me know what you think. This is my first Model 8 and I really just got into them. Thanks

Re: Question about holes in receiver
fun rifle you landed there, you're going to have a BLAST
As far as the sling swivel on the barrel jacket, that doesn't mean anything police related. When Remington built the Police guns, they were factory supplied with matching swivel eyelets in the barrel jacket and in the stock. But these could be purchased aftermarket or ordered separately and had nothing to do with police work. You've got a great Model 8 there, probably seen many a hours in the field on deer hunts. Enjoy!
