REMINGTON 81 FUNCTION

Is the bolt supposed to hold open on the last shot?? I have one that the trip lever works, but has to be it has to be engaged by hand. Is this proper??

Yes, the trip lever (otherwise known as the magazine indicator assembly) when manually depressed will release the bolt/bolt carrier to its forward position. The bolt/bolt carrier should always lock back after the last round.
