Can someone with more knowledge them myself comment on the M8 F grade currently for sale on Gun Broker.
To me it appears to be a standard A grade with the checkered stock that was available from the Remington at the time with no engraving at all.

Hey chas1949,

I just looked at the listing and this is not an F grade model 8. It has some pretty wood in the stock. The forearm appears to br a Beaver Tail which were on the early model 81. I don’t recall seeing pictures of the style of butt plate that is on this rifle on other model 8 F grades.

The starting bid is out of line in my opinion giving the overall appearance of this rifle. There are no cheeks on this rifle which I believe were on all of the graded rifles in this time period.

Regards,

Thank you for confirming my thoughts and on this rifle.
I did share my concerns with the seller and suggested he visit the Great Model 8 site to view a F grade M8.
I got no response.

Note the wrist sanded down below the tang.
Forearm is not even a M81 let alone M8; ie we probably have a Franken.
Due to the M81 screw in the forearm, hard to see, but there.
Buffed out pit on the receiver left & on the serial # area could mean a reblue.
Receiver is likely a SLR early rifle from B4 the put the Logo on the left.
Tang sight missing parts on the left.
A nice restore with pretty stock grain, & the S-curve butt plate, 25 Rem is rare...

It's possible the seller saw one of the inspector/fitter stamps of "F" on the bottom of the rifle and assumed that meant "F" grade. Have come across that misconception several times.
