Insomnia got me up at 0130 so I dug out the 1922 Model 8 and 1949 Model 81, broke them down, gave them a good scrubbing and a coat of wax. Love these old guns.
To clean I use Hoppes #9 bore cleaner on J. Dewey jags, patches and rods.
To oil the bore for storage I use Hoppes #9 oil on a Swab-Its Bore-Tip.
Renaissance Wax on the wood and metal.
I put them in a Bore Store sock for storage in the safe.
I had never heard of using wax for corrosion protection until I read Jim Thompson's book, "The Essential M1 Garand".

I love the Renaissance Wax. I use it on all gun metals and stocks and grips. The Royal Armory uses it on all their firearms and blades. One jar will last a lifetime.

Beautiful guns, the bluing on that lower one is like new! I had not heard of waxing them either but now it's the only way I see too. Learned it from Larry Potterfield on Midway USA Youtube. he also uses Renaissance as well as I do too.Trepang wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 7:12 pm Insomnia got me up at 0130 so I dug out the 1922 Model 8 and 1949 Model 81, broke them down, gave them a good scrubbing and a coat of wax. Howdy,
Never too old to learn something new. I had heard about this product several years ago. I had thought about buying some and forgot about it. I had my wife order a bottle of it from Amazon. I want to try it on some of my springpoles. Thanks for sharing the information and the pictures.

I`m with you on this Jack. I`ve waxed my firearms for years but used good ol Johnson`s paste furniture wax. Have a 2 lb can that`s been around here forever. I had read reviews on Renaissance wax and many comments on other forums about it. Thought was kinda pricey for the amount in the can. Ordered a can few months ago and I`m amazed with how well it works and the small amount needed to do it. Wish I had bought some years ago.Guess" good things do come in small packages".

I totally know what you mean by amazed how well it works! It really does work great on metals and wood. I even use it on some of the copper vessels I have made. It really does last a long time on the surface too. I thought the same that it was pricey but after I have seen how long it goes and how little you need it really is the best.Sarge756 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 10:45 pm I`m with you on this Jack.
