Mystery Charging Handle Issue:

I just picked up a Model 8 on GB the other day and didn't realize that the charging handle appears to be non-standard. Instead of the little nub that you pull up to release the handle, this has a large slot like a screw. Anyone seen one like this? Slotting a gunsmithing screwdriver into the screw head produces no appreciable result. If I put more torque on it, I'm afraid I'll strip the screw, or over-torque the shaft of my Grace smithing screwdrivers.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, it came loose finally. Not the typical setup, so I can't tell if it was original to the gun or if it was done by a smith later on? There's a spring, plunger, charging handle, and screw-down end-cap to hold the spring against the plunger. Definitely not something I've in my limited experience.

Hey tallen702,
I just saw the pictures. I should have looked at the remaining posts before replying to the Welcome post.
Your charging handle issue is not unusual. The one you have is not a factory issue. The cap was lost and someone replaced it with the one you now see. I have seen many over the years that have had replacement components made to solve the problem. There are members who have posted parts for sale so you should not have any problem finding a replacement. You can check Ebay for parts also. I am sure someone will come to the rescue.
Regards,
