I took delivery early in the week of this Model 8 with the seldom seen checkered flat metal buttpad. It sure needed major cleaning for the barrel and components in the shroud. The receiver wasn’t too dirty and all the parts were in good shape.
I’m SURE glad this wasn’t my first Model 8! Opening up the shroud would’ve been quite nerving to one unfamiliar with these. To add insult to being so cruddy in the shroud, the Buffer and the Recoil spring cause were installed incorrectly “it was assembled just like the photo” I had to use a shotgun cleaning rod to help push the spring case out.
Today I finished putting everything back together clean as can be. I bench cycled some cartridges through the gun, good to go. I went outside, hung up my target and loaded up 5 rounds. I took off the safety off and let 5 shots bang out without any problems. It appears the sights are pretty darn close with my reloads.
