Good morning gents. I realized the other day that I never had any decent photos of this rifle that I picked up in 2019.
The only story of the rifle that I have is that it came from an auction house in Maine. There was a total of 3 rifles that I was interested in, one of which was a 2 digit serial first year autoloading rifle. Unfortunately that rifle was in poor to fair condition and not pursuing it gave me more beans towards this engraved rifle.
Here's a few photos of my #4 / D grade made at the beginning of 1911. It's chambered in 35 Remington. It cleaned up real nice and is the slickest action Model 8 I've ever handled! They say the early high grade models were polished up some on the internals, this one surely fits that bill. I believe the sights are factory special request from the original owner, but without paperwork I can't substantiate that theory.

Thanks John! The early ones with cheeks sure are neat.54bullseye wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 2:36 pm Beautiful D grade Luke !! The wood is beautiful as is the engraving !! I like the peep as well. I also like the nice prominent cheeks on these old beauties too !! Nice score ! John Taylor
If I'm not mistaken, we have "almost" twins with our D grades.

The bluing is better on yours and the cheeks are a little sharper. John

I'll agree on the cheeks, the bluing on mine may be embellished by the lighting.
Anyway- same year guns, Lyman receiver sight, D grade and straight grip. I noticed that yours has the jacket head engraved "very uncommon!" along with a little more engraving in certain spots.
It's neat looking at 2 examples from the same year and noticing subtle differences in the engraving.
