Checking pattern front stock

Post by ranman »

Is this factory pattern not recognized early FNs. The checkering is right up to the hanger screw. I have seen three this way on three digit serial numbers rifles. I am certain they are factory original.

Howdy Ranman.

I had to do some digging through pictures, here's one from the auction that I purchased the rifle showing the underside of the forearm. Serial #441.

I just replied to you about this in my FN post, then saw this post.

Number 1045 has the diamond shaped around the hanger screw. Maybe the change was around serial one thousand to this pattern.

Here's another early one "serial #51" that is checkered the same. With that said, this one was refinished at some point. I can't say with absolute certainty that this example was that way from factory.
