Howdy gentleman. Here's a rifle I purchased in November and finally got to put hands on recently.

I returned home last week from a tour in Djibouti "Horn of Africa." I left home in September and put boots back on Pennsylvania soil last week.

The rifle appears to be a checkered A grade yet has a # 3 stamp following the serial stamp on the buttstock and trigger guard. Certainly not plain jane wood but not as high figured as other C grades. Absolutely happy with the rifle, cursory inspection of the internals and barrel, reflect the exterior condition of the rifle.

This gun is my highest condition Autoloading Rifle "Model 8."

I should have bought it I would have bet money it was a checkered A grade. You should check the lines per inch the checkering is. Glad you bought it !! John Taylor

Hey Hibby, What a beautiful Cgrade. I’m sure it’s a cgrade because of the 3 code numbers. What I didn’t see was what caliber it is. Congratulations on a great acquisition.

That is an outstanding "C" grade. I wouldn't down play the quality of the wood at all, I think it's beautiful.

Hey fellas, I’m sure that it has English walnut. Which would have been standard on any Cgrade M 8.I agree that it is really beautiful wood.35 rem.is top of the heap.

Don't mind my initial impression, it may have sounded snobby. Hah
Seems most examples of higher grades wood are less blonde, they're darker in appearance. Between John and I, we believed it to be a checkered standard grade at first. The auction photos were done with very bright lighting. Considering the rarity of checkered standard grades, I was kind of hoping it was one.

Upon stock removal and seeing the stamping i realized that I purchased a VERY nice condition #3 / C grade autoloading rifle.

Soon I'll have to put some rounds on paper behind the house!

The condition of the wood is outstanding. The high prominent "cheeks", the sharp checkering. That's worth a penny!
