Here is a cool old gun !! A checkered A grade model 8 I bought a couple years ago from a fellow Great 8 site member. It has nice straight grain walnut stocks that are in nice shape. It looks like who ever owned it use to rest rear stock on a board or fence post or maybe a tree stand rest as the checkering around lower tang is pretty badly beat up but the rest of wood is good.

It's a second year gun in 30-30 rem with serial # 2613. It has old style safety and no springs on side of magazine. Apparently who ever owned it back in the day didn't like the stock sights and mounted a peep behind receiver and a blank to cover screw holes on barrel shroud. The channel in wood for top tang is marked 2613 as is metal on both top and bottom tangs. The fore end has no marking on it.

I think these checkered A grades are fairly scarce so I am glad to own this one. I have taken a bunch of pictures for you all to look at and hope you enjoy them.

Beautiful rifle there, pictures sure do the talking on it's condition.

At some point over the years somebody had a lapse in judgement on how they were resting the rifle. It doesn't take away from the rifle, adds some character on an otherwise excellent condition gun.
