Well I watched this item and there seemed to be little interest. I asked the seller a couple questions about it but it was a consignment so no info on who did the mod.
I have a weakness for the rare or odd ones so this one will join the other three detatch mag 81s in my safe

What's crazy is it's got a cut-down POE magazine.
Undoubtedly the guy who started cutting on that magazine had no idea he was cutting apart something that would be worth thousands of dollars some day

Finally received this M81.
The removable mag does not show any signs of being a shortened 10 or 15 rnd police magazine. Some research did mention that a limited number of 5 rnd mags were made.
There is no safety stop or magazine indicator/bolt hold open and release present.
Barrel lock screw has been drilled and an internal screw installed to hold it in place when mag is removed.
Serial # is matching on all metal parts except no number on mag. Mag release is also not the typical lever but a serrated button.Magazine is a high quality build and fits perfectly with no rattles.
There are no markings to indicate that it was a POE build however all the internal mods suggest that it may have been. I don’t believe the stock and fore end are original as they are not serial numbered and have checkering.
When I have time to get this apart I will update on what I find.

After reviewing info in John Henwood’s book I think that it may be possible this may have originally been a special police model that was never assigned to an agency. 20873 is the highest ser number known to the author while this one is number 20987.
