I hope to get a deer with every caliber of Model 8. I've already got a couple with a .35. My .300 Savage Model 8 has a repair code suggesting it is a factory conversion.
150 grn Grand Slam handload at 60 yards. It dropped her on the spot. She has thick backstraps and the about the prettiest hide I've seen on a deer.

Way to go! It is great to get an old rifle back in the woods and harvest a deer. Nicely done, congratulations.
I plan to try and repeat my Iowa hunt from two years ago. In Iowa, one must use a 35 or larger caliber though. I will be pursuing the same quarry, as my tag is for an antlerless only. Spikes are considered antlerless, so just does or spike bucks.

Thanks!
Indiana used to have a .35 law but it went away. Hunting with an old classic really makes a hunt fun. It did mean not getting a nice buck that I would have shot with my normal scoped rifle but hopefully one of my sons will get him. I'm looking forward to seeing how she tastes. Even though I have other pelts I'm getting hers tanned. Too pretty not to.
