Receiver peep sight

Hello!

My Remington Model 8 dated 1934 has a rear peep sight screwed into the left side of the receiver. I realize this sight was very common on the Model 8/81, but were these ever installed by the factory or were they aftermarket sights?

I don't know the brand for this rear sight. Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure they are, there is a '06 or '07 Grade D with one. Plus ALL the FBI early model had one. Remington was noted for a great "variety" of sights. Including Dockendoff. Check it out.
Guess how I KNOW  :ugeek:

So factory installed and original to the rifle you think?

Thank you.

Perhaps...
One clue some early sights had 5-28 Thd mount screws, I have both with some later 6-40 allens. Those are rare on vintage rifles, lending to a repair?
(Hint: never lose a screw   )
Recall some of these are over 100yr old.
Remington DEFINITELY installed the Lyman 41AT as a factory option
My GrD from B4 1910 "could" have left the factory new with a 41AT.
It has 3 (count-em) BBl date codes, one for 1950.
It came with the factory repair shipping box. :D  :D
With our member's superior knowledge :ugeek: I know it has a M81 Barrel sleeve with a M8 forearm screw boss, probably one of a kind factory documented repair.
So this said, I hope it's obvious that we often can't be sure of our Ladies history. The fire at Remington offices gives us very limited records, know what I mean?
