Here is a question for you guys. How does someone create a 22-250 barrel out of a 300 savage barrel? One of the rifles that I recently purchased is a Model 81 with a .300 savage stamped barrel. However, it is chambered for a 22-250 and has been confirmed by my gunsmith. I can not see any evidence of a sleeve in the barrel. I was also wondering how this thing would shoot. The rifle is clean and was said to shoot just fine. I can send pictures, but take my word for it, the only thing you can see is the muzzle which obviously has a much smaller diameter than the .300 Savage. What are your thoughts about this hybrid? Let me hear from you, please!

barrel extensions (the blocky part w/ the caliber stamped on it) is seperate from the barrel itself. These two pieces are screwed together. My guess is that someone has a 22-250 barrel made. They took a 300sav barrel assembly, removed the 300 barrel from the extension, screwed in the new barrel, and then had a new assembly that has a 22 caliber bore but marked 300SAV on the extension. Would have been a good idea to stamp out that 300SAV and put a new caliber marking below it but it's cool you know the real caliber now.

300 Savage has an operating pressure of between 46 and 49,000 psi and the 22-250 is over 50,000. Shoot ONLY mild loads in this gun if you value it. As to how it was done it's no trick to turn a duplicate barrel for a M8/81.
